The XCOM War Logs – Part 2

After those early successes, we head back into battle again!  Well, first some soldiers headed back out of it.  Andrew (now nicknamed “Terminator” which is just fantastic), Emma, and Bobbilyann (nicknamed “Shooter” now) return from their covert op to find a hidden Chosen assassin with information that they’re hiding in Asia.  Good thing that’s not a large area to cover.  Bobbilyann and Andrew seemed to get on rather well and are now bond mates meaning they should work well together during missions.  We put that to the test straight away.

A small team head out to “liberate” some alien supplies, including the newly bonded pair.  What starts out as a sneak through zombie infested streets descends into carnage as the Chosen assassin makes an appearance.  Whilst Rhodri (now known as “Papa Bear”!) scouts the area to claim any supplies, Andrew makes a daring charge towards the assassin weilding his shotgun.  Whilst he manages to force her to retreat, he also attracts the attention of the zombies.  Things are looking bleak for him, but Bobbilyann covers his escape with her rifle.  Together they mop up the zombies and help the team escape.

Meanwhile, Josh (“Outrider”), Heather (“Boomstick”), Rob (“Wildchild” – sigh), Kerry, and Caroline (a newly christened Specialist) head out to rescue a resistance VIP who has found themselves in a spot of bother.  More zombies here, and the team find themselves in a race against the clock to get to the VIP and her escort before she’s overwhelmed.  There was little threat to our team as the horde was more interested in the VIP, so we reached her quickly.  But it turns out the Chosen assassin has a friend: a rather powerful Warlock.  He manages to get to Caroline, but rather than killing her, he did some sort of brain thing to her to learn where our base is.  Whilst she survived, the aliens know more about us than I’d like.  At any rate, Heather hoists the VIP on her shoulders and makes a run for the evac point with the rest of the team.

Once the brave soldiers had recovered, we decided to act on previous intelligence regarding the location of an alien experimentation site.  Stuart (“Cyber”), Heather (“Boomstick”), Rhodri (“Papa Bear”), Josj (“Outrider”), and Emma headed in to find out what was going on.  Our favourite Chosen assassin happened to be protecting the place.  Josh managed to force her retreat, but not before she gave Stuart a serious kicking.  Meanwhile, Heather charged into a group of alien guards, sword drawn, to clear a path, but left herself dangerously exposed to an alien mech.  Once again Josh was there to pick up the pieces.  Rhodri grabs a bizarre piece of alien tech whist Emma covers him before the team break through a line of alien reinforcements and escape.  Emma and Josh have worked so well as a team that they end up becomeing each other’s bond mates.

With the assassin causing us regular problems, we’ve sent out a small team to narrow down her location.  Josh (“Outrider”), Paul (a new Ranger), and Bobbilyann (“Shooter”) head out into the unknown…
