It’s not quite the end of the year, but the next couple of Sunday’s are Christmas and New Year’s Eve respecively so I’m going to do this now. Don’t complain, you get me earlier than usual. What a Christmas treat!

So I’ve enjoyed a full year of blogging now. I’ve gone from reviewing every week, to interspersing reveiews with lists and such, to doing opinion pieces and lists with fewer reviews. I’ve found that reviewing has been a bit of a chore this year, with me enjoying the games I want to play less than if I wasn’t reviewing them. To that end I’ve played more and reviewed less which has been quite the treat! Anyway, here are some things from the year.

Most viewed post: Modern Gaming is a Bit Rubbish
I put up 2 posts near the start of the year, one about how modern gaming is awful, one about how it’s great. Turns out people like to read negative stuff more! Who knew?!
Least Viewed Post: Halo Wars 2
No sure why this one was so unpopular. I suppose I put it up a couple of months after the game’s release. The game was disappointing anyway.

Mmmm, you guys sure do love it when I have a good old whinge.
Post series: The XCOM War Logs
Whilst not a hugely read set of posts, I’ve enjoyed this series rather a lot as it’s allowed me to call out the repetative nature of the mission objectives and manage to get plenty of my friends murdered.

The Future: I’ve also been writing for Big Boss Battle on the side, something that I’ve really enjoyed doing. However, due to events at work, I’ve had to take on more reponsibility meaning I haven’t been able to commit to my site and writing for them too. To that end, from next year, my reviews will be appearing on their site, with links to it on mine. Trying to maintain my blog, support an excellent website, as well as put more time into my job has left me exhausted. I hope you’ll continue to read my content elsewhere in the future.

In Gaming:
At the time of writing…
- 54 games completed
- 39 games added to the backlog
First game completed this year: Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate
Christ, I enjoyed this game for the first 5 hours, then the next 40 were an utter slog. Why did I bother finishing it? Lesson learned if I’m honest.
Most recent game completed: Super Mario Odyssey
Oh I’ve finished the story, but there is no way I’m finished with this. It’s rare enough for me to mess around with post game content, so that might go some way to telling you how much I enjoyed this.

The Future: I’ve been thinking about clearning out my backlog (especially my Steam one) a lot lately, but having recently purchased a Switch, I don’t see that happening any time soon. Added to that, seeing as I’m going to be writing for B3 a lot more, I’m more likely to be playing newer indie games for review. But we’ll see what happens!
Before I finish up, thank you any and all of you for taking even a minute out of your busy lives to read the tripe that I post week after week. Knowing that even a handful of people have read what I have to say (write?) makes me feel incredibly happy and, yes, validated. With that in mind, here’s a song about feeling validated.
I wish you some happy holidays and an early happy new year! ❤

Congratulations on year one of your blog. I think I wrote close to 400 post in my first year. I only had two kids then though 🙂 . Happy Holidays! Stay safe and enjoy your time with family.

400 in a year?! I couldn’t manage that with 1 kid, let alone 2!

Looking back on it I have no idea how I did it. I was writing like 5 times a day back then lol. Congrats again on your first year dude :).

You beat a ton of games, especially compared to my 4 or 5! I think I might have beaten you with what I added to my backlog, though with the number of games I already have an need to play I’m not sure that’s much of an accomplishment hehe.
Merry Christmas and Happy Gaming for 2018!

I did have an idea to play through just my backlog this year but I know I’m far too weak for that!

My goal is to play more games. 2017 was the year I tried to read all the books (and did…over 70). 2018 is going to be me trying to play all the games and play different types of game, branch out a bit.

Thank you! I’ll remember those words next time I’m told playing games is a waste of time :-p

The best thing about Warriors Orochi 3 was unlocking the Ninja Gaiden characters and then ignoring the actual main characters as much as possible. 🙂

I know! Joan of Arc turns up to fight demons and then all bets are off.

Congrats on a successful year of gaming! Mine wasn’t nearly as fruitful, as I added more games to my backlog and didn’t complete nearly as many! Ah well, maybe this year will be different. I kind of changed up my strategy for playing games too- instead of trying to play and take screenshots of everything and write about everything I was doing, I just concentrated on simply playing the game, and I ended up enjoying it a lot more. Best of luck in 2018, and I’m looking forward to more of your posts! 🙂

Yeah, playing games just because you have them translates into not a lot of fun. I’m taking to playing my backlog games until I decide I’m no longer having fun. I’ll just chalk that one up as a waste and move onz

That’s a good way to do it! There’s a couple of games I’ve forced myself to get through and then I wonder why I bothered!
