On the eleventh day of Blogmas, the gamers asked of me, two games that I’d improve.
The end is in sight! One more day to go and Christmas will be over! Better start getting the tree down. Anyway, Athena’s Blogmas series is nearly done too, and today we have two games that I’d improve. I think I have a couple of ideas, but I’m just going to see where this takes me!
1. Alpha Protocol
Funnily enough, this is one I mentioned as a game I think everyone should play. I still think it needs improving though, as it’s pretty janky in places. The combat feels a bit clunky as times, and there’s too little explanation regarding how you should build your initial character. If you put points into SMGs and shotguns at the start, you’ll be utterly screwed as there’s far more long-range than short-range combat.
It’s still great though. Give it a chance if you can get hold of it.
You can pick either Dark Corners of the Earth, or the more recent 2018 release for this as they’re both flawed gems. I’m going for the latter, though. There’s a really cool story in here, but there are a few things that need a rethink to make it into a solid game. Remove the shooting section, it’s not needed. Make better use of the sanity mechanic, so that my character genuinely feels different as it lowers. Give the story the time it needs rather than rushing to the conclusion in the last hour-and-a-half or so.
I really wanted to love this game, but there are a lot of misfires that hold it back from being brilliant. Still worth a play though.
There we go, the first two that came to my head! What games do you think need an urgent rethink in certain places?
